In Latvia, the single emergency call number 1 1 2 has been in operation since November 1997. . When you call 1 1 2, you can call the operational service you need to help.
1 1 2 Contact centres
Three 1 1 2 contact centres operate in Latvia. There are 18 dispatchers answering citizens' calls every day.
Modernisation
A two-level 1 1 2 emergency call processing model is gradually being introduced in Latvia.
The first level is the 1 1 2 contact centre. It receives all citizens' messages (calls, eCalls, text messages) and processes them by assessing where operational services are needed, but where operational services are not required to be involved.
Tier two is the Resource Management centres, which are set up in each of the services - the State fire and Rescue Service, the State Police and the ambulance Service, and are separate from each other.
So far, the dispatcher of the 1 1 2 contact center had to call, such as national Police dispatchers, to inform them of the need for police at the scene of the fire. Following a fully completed upgrade, all operational services involved will receive at the same time basic information on the event, as the dispatcher of the 1 1 2 Contact Centre shall, after processing the information through the new Single information system for operational services, transmit information on the event simultaneously to all operational services involved.
After receiving information regarding the event, the Resource Management Centre of each operational Service shall send resources of its service to the event and attract others, if necessary.
The single information system for operational services also ensures rapid mutual exchange of information on event and resource management on-line, all operational services involved can keep track of developments.
The first of the three new 1 1 2 contact centres was opened on A.Kronwald Street 52, Cesis on September 28, 2022, the second 1 1 2 contact centre was opened on Dobele Street 16, Jelgava on June 28, 2023. In 2025, it is planned to open another new 1 1 2 contact centre in Riga.
