What is the State Fire and Rescue Service?
The State Fire and Rescue Service (hereinafter referred to as the Service) is a direct administrative institution under the supervision of the Minister of Internal Affairs. The Service implements the national policy in the field of fire safety, fire fighting, rescue work, civil defense and the single emergency call number "112" throughout the territory of Latvia.
Functions
The Service performs the following functions:
- implements state policy in the field of fire safety, firefighting, civil defense and the unified emergency call number "112";
- monitors compliance with fire safety and civil protection requirements set forth in regulatory acts;
- performs firefighting and rescue operations;
- coordinates the activities of fire safety, firefighting and rescue services and volunteer firefighting organizations established by institutions, organizations, commercial companies and municipalities, related to fire safety and firefighting.
Composition of the service
The Service consists of structural units of the central apparatus, independent and territorial structural units, as well as the Latvian Fire Museum. The College of Fire Safety and Civil Defense is under the authority of the Service.
The central apparatus of the Service has:
- Management of financial plans,
- Personnel administration,
- Department of Prevention and Public Information,
- Development and International Cooperation Administration,
- Legal Department,
- Planning and Coordination Department,
- Department of European Affairs and International Cooperation,
- Project management department,
- Procurement and Supply Administration,
- Document Circulation and Management Department,
- Department of Internal Security,
- Department of Digitalization of Education
Territorial structural units are:
- Administration of the Riga region,
- Administration of the Latgale region,
- Administration of the Kurzeme region,
- Administration of the Vidzeme region,
- Administration of the Zemgale region.
