Civil protection system is an integral part of the Comprehensive State Defence, which forms the basis for an efficient and comprehensive cross-sectoral and civil-military coordination, including cooperation between civil and military authorities, coordination and de-confliction of resources and capacity harmonization.
Latvia has civil protection system that consists of measures implemented by the state and local government authorities and the society to ensure the safety of people, the environment and property, and also implement corresponding actions in case of a disaster or threats thereof.
Ministry of the Interior is ensuring coordination in development planning and operation of the civil protection system, whereas the State Fire and Rescue Service ensures management, coordination and control of the operation of the civil protection system.
