17th Meeting of Directors General for Civil Protection in the Baltic Sea RegionPrint


On 28 –29 May in Riga the 17th meeting for Directors General for civil protection in the Baltic Sea region will take place. The meeting will be held in the framework of Latvian Presidency of the Council of Baltic Sea States (CBSS), which is organized by State Fire and Rescue Service of Latvia (SFRS) in the area of civil protection. The meeting will be opened by SFRS chief general Oskars Abolins.

Directors General will discuss the implementation progress of the CBSS Joint Action Plan on Enhancing Cooperation in Civil Protection Area and the Action Plan, that are being implemented through different projects, initiatives and research to strengthen the regional cooperation of relevant stakeholders in the field of civil protection.

The researcher of the Swedish Defence University Prof. Magnus Ekengren will present his view on the topic “Societal Security in the Baltic Sea Region: what is needed?” On the second day of the meeting, the Deputy Chief of the UNISDR Regional Office for Europe Mr Abhilash Panda will talk about the disaster risk reduction measures specifically for the Baltic Sea region.

The next Presidency of CBSS will be held by Denmark, starting from 1 July 2019.

The Council of the Baltic Sea States is an overall political forum for regional cooperation, consisting of 11 Member States – Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Iceland, Latvia, Lithuania, Norway, Poland, Russia and Sweden.
